Virginia Graeme Baker Act
Mandatory Requirements for all Commercial Pools & Spas

December 20th, 2008- President Bush signed the Virginia Graeme Baker Act into law on December 20th, 2007. This law applies to ALL commercial pools and spas. All commercial pools & spas must be in compliance by December 20th, 2008. Full Version: Title XIV Pool and Spa Safety Act
Requirements:

You must have at least two main drains in your pool or spa, at least three feet apart.

You must have new Anti-Hair Snare Drain covers for the main drains for your pool or spa.

You will also need a Safety Vacuum Release Valve installed (if you do not have two main drains at least three feet apart).
Equipment:
Not all pools or spas will need the same equipment to comply with the law; it depends on your system. There are several products on the market that will bring your pool or spa into compliance.

What Will Happen If I Don't Comply by December 20th?
There are numerous layers of protection that are included in this law. The fines for not complying with this law have risen from 1.8 million dollars to 15 million dollars.
